Meteorologists say Tropical Storm Grace intensified in a hurricane off the coast of Mexico today, threatening torrential rain, flooding and big waves.
A hurricane warning is in effect for a number of seaside resorts, including Cancun on the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in Miami.
This afternoon, the hurricane had maximum accompanying winds with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It was located 560 km east of the Mexican city of Tulum and is expected to intensify before reaching the mainland tomorrow morning, after already causing floods on the island of Haiti.
In Cancun supermarkets, some residents have already started storing food, preparing for the arrival of the hurricane, although authorities urge not to panic when shopping.
