At Least Four People Were Killed and Four Others Injured in a Shooting in Chicago

At least four people were killed and four others injured this morning in a shooting in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, police said, citing preliminary inspection data.

“Police officers received reports of multiple shootings around 5.40am,” a police spokesman said.

At least four people were killed and four were hospitalized. Two of them are in critical condition, and for the remaining two it is not known what condition they are in, according to the police.

A man, of unknown age, was shot in the back of the head and hospitalized. Another 25-year-old man was also shot in the back of the head and taken to the same hospital. A woman is in critical condition and is hospitalized at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

A 23-year-old man came to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, from where he was transferred in critical condition to the medical center of the University of Chicago.

Police said a shooting at a home where several people had gathered had escalated into an argument between them.

“Several people have gunshot wounds,” police said in a statement.

Earlier, police spokeswoman Sally Bowen said she could not confirm reports that more than one person had been killed.

“The investigation is ongoing, so this is all we have at the moment,” she wrote in an email
