Moldova and Lithuania have declared a state of emergency in anticipation of an influx of refugees from Ukraine, which has been under attack by Russia since this morning. Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said she is ready to help tens of thousands of Ukrainians.

Slovakia has said it will send 1,500 troops to the border with Ukraine to help with the arrival of refugees. In Poland, hospitals are preparing beds for possible admission of wounded from Ukraine.

“Poland is ready to receive migrants from Ukraine. “We will make sure that anyone who enters the territory of Poland receives medical assistance,” the health ministry said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Putin of acting like Hitler in World War II.

“Russia is on the path of evil,” Zelensky said, adding that Ukrainian forces were fighting fiercely in the east, north and south of the country.

Due to the Russian invasion, NATO members Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland have activated Article 4, which calls for collective action by all 30 members of the alliance. Since the founding of NATO in 1949, this article has been activated only six times.
