Rocket Attacks From Gaza Continue

Palestinian militants and Israeli forces in the Middle East are entering the second week of the armed conflict.

Radical Hamas and the Israeli army fired rockets at targets in Israel and the Gaza Strip again tonight. Dozens of Palestinians were killed again in the fierce bombing.

The Israeli army fired a dozen rockets into the Gaza Strip last night, saying it was targeting “terrorist targets.”

The houses of nine senior radical Hamas officers who were also used as ammunition depots were destroyed. It was reportedly a reaction to the rocket fire on the Israeli cities of Beersheba and Ashlon around midnight. As the Security Council held its first public meeting yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “the Israeli campaign against Hamas continues in full force.”

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the United Nations was “actively engaging all sides in the ceasefire” and called on them to “ensure the intensification and success of the peace effort”.

The United States has sent a envoy to the region, and President Joe Biden spoke with Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday. UN envoy to the Middle East Thor Wencesland has called on the international community to “take urgent action”. Efforts by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations for a ceasefire have so far shown no signs of progress.

At least 148 people, including 41 children, have been killed in Gaza since escalating clashes began last Monday, while Israel has reported 10 dead, including two children.

The Israeli Defense Ministry says 450 rockets have been fired at Gaza so far, and 1,210 missiles have been intercepted by the Iron Curtain air defense system. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have fired 3,100 rockets over the past seven days from Gaza. Israeli liberals are convinced that the past two years have been a preparation for a new war, which neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians want, but which could be of political benefit to extremists on both sides. especially the Israeli Prime Minister.
