The Dixie Fire Destroyed More Than A Thousand Buildings In California

The largest single fire in California history continued to break out in the woods as firefighters tried to protect rural communities from the blaze that destroyed hundreds of homes.

Nearly 6,000 firefighters and planes are taking part in fighting the Dixie fire, which has been going on for a month.

As of yesterday, the fire had destroyed more than 1,000 buildings, including nearly 550 houses. Much of the small Greenville community was reduced to ashes after a devastating fire last week.

The Dixie fire has engulfed 14,000 buildings in more than a dozen small mountain and rural communities in northern Sierra Nevada.

The fire broke out on July 14 and until yesterday spread to a total area of 1,984 square kilometers.
