(Video) Romanian Billionaire Drowned In Costa Rica Causes Chaos In Cryptocurrency Market

A billionaire from Romania mysteriously drowned in Costa Rica, and his death created chaos in the cryptocurrency market.

One of the world’s largest bitcoin owners, Mircea Popescu, has reportedly died in Costa Rica at the age of 41, raising uncertainty about the fate of the $ 1 billion cryptocurrency he left behind.

The billionaire drowned in Playa Hermoza de Garabito, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, according to the Spanish edition of, which described the deceased as a “41-year-old foreigner”.

Popescu, a Romanian entrepreneur and blogger, started the MPEk stock exchange in 2012 and was something of an evangelist for cryptocurrencies.

His fortune in mid-April this year was worth nearly two billion dollars in bitcoins, but since then it has probably dropped dramatically. He allegedly controlled more than a million coins.

The news of Popescu’s death has sparked speculation through crypto-related channels about what will happen to his huge assets. If the billionaire had not previously determined that others could access his wallet, those coins would have been lost.

Given the huge number and the limited number of bitcoins that can be mined, this can affect the price of bitcoin. Bitcoin traded at $ 36,000 as of Tuesday, up 4.5 percent from the previous day.
